FAQs

Here’s some of our most frequently asked questions. For more specific enquiries, please just give us a shout, we want to hear from you!

Who sings in The Jack Dames?

+

The band have both male and female lead vocals. Ruth is their lead female singer, and Ting sings the male vocals while playing keyboards. Having two lead voices means they can cover a huge range of songs, from big female anthems to classic rock and everything in between.

What's a Jack Dames night like?

+

Fun, lively and full of energy. The band love what they do and it shows, so your guests get swept up in it. They read the room brilliantly and keep the dance floor packed from the first song to the last, and they're happy to invite guests up on stage to sing along.

Do The Jack Dames play a ceilidh?

+

Yes. The band offer a live ceilidh set, which is a brilliant way to get everyone dancing together. It's especially popular at weddings with friends and family from overseas who are trying Scottish dancing for the first time.

Do the band still play bagpipes during the ceilidh?

+

Not any more. Some older reviews mention live bagpipes, but the band's line-up has changed and pipes are no longer part of their show. Their live ceilidh set is still a big hit, and if you'd love a piper on the day, our team can recommend one.

Will The Jack Dames learn our first dance?

+

Yes. Couples often tell us how the band learned an unfamiliar first dance song especially for them, sometimes at short notice. The more notice you can give, the better, so let us know your choice as early as possible.

Our venue has a sound limiter. Is that a problem?

+

Not at all. The Jack Dames are experienced at working with venue sound limiters and will set up to give you a great atmosphere within your venue's limits. Just let us know about any restrictions when you book.

Do The Jack Dames play corporate events and charity balls?

+

They do. As well as weddings, the band have played the Edinburgh Rugby Awards at Murrayfield, the Team Jak Foundation charity ball at Prestonfield House, company awards ceremonies, annual conferences and Christmas parties, plus milestone birthdays and anniversaries.

+

How long do the band need to set up?

Can we choose every song the band play?

You're very welcome to send your favourites, and the band will always play your first dance. We'd recommend leaving the rest to them, though. Reading the crowd and choosing songs in the moment is how they keep the dance floor full all night.

Can a friend or family member sing with the band?

Usually, yes. The band love getting guests involved. Just let us know in advance so they can plan for it and it's always on the condition that they're sober(ish) :-)

+

Do we need to feed the band?

A meal is always appreciated but isn't usually essential. It's needed if the band are travelling a long way or, for corporate events, if they need to sound check well before they perform. We'll confirm what's needed when you book.
